
2011 Canada Winter Games
2011 Canada Winter Games in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
NWT skaters have been attending the Canada Winter Games since 1999 when both a long track and a short track team was fielded. The NWTASSA is committed to sending a full team of skaters, coach and manager to the 2011 Canada Winter Games to be held in Halifax, Nova Scotia February 11-27, 2011. The team will consist of a maximum of 5 males and 5 females who have qualified for the team as per the
NWTASSA 2011 Canada Winter Games Selection Criteria.
The NWTASSA receives high performance funding from Sport North's Excel program to train athletes and coaches for this premier event. These funds are spent on sending skaters to high performance events so that they can gain valuable competition experience. This funding is also intended to support coach training for the CWG. The coach selected for the upcoming games is Shane Clark who has been coaching with the Yellowknife Speed Skating Club for the past five years. Shane has also coached Team NWT at the 2008 Arctic Winter Games, the 2008 Canadian Age Class Short Track competition and numerous meets throughout Alberta over the past several years. He is presently working on completing his Speed Skating Canada Level 3 Coaching Certification.
