Coaching Development
All speed skating coaches within the NWT are volunteers. For many years, they have offered high quality programs to hundreds of eager skaters. To support this remarkable volunteer group the NWTASSA is strongly committed to the development of high quality, skilled coaches for all of our clubs. Our coaching development program follows the programs of Speed Skating Canada which fit into the Coaching Association of Canada's Long Term Athlete Development Model. The NWTASSA strives to provide opportunites for coach training to all NWT speed skating coaches. We encourage coaches to contact us with their training needs so that we can arrange the appropriate level of coaching clinic. Where possible, financial assistance to attend coaching clinics will be provided.
Once coaches are trained they receive a coaching certification number from the Coaching Association of Canada. Coaches can then track their training and certification in both speed skating and other sports.
